nive-235x300Hello, I am Nive. Creator, author and web admin of ‘playdate with purpose’. You can also find me food blogging at handfulofjoy.

So here is how the “Playdate With Purpose” came about

When we moved to our new community couple of years ago, it brought changes in our routine and schedule. My kids often said that they didn’t get to play with their friends often enough.

One day as I was looking into the school year calendar, I realized that

  • 11 out of 12 months there is at least one school holiday.(e.g MLK day, president’s day, Columbus Day, Memorial’s day, Labor’s day. All of these are Monday holidays.)
  • There are Early Release Fridays.
  • Week of Spring break
  • 3 months of summer vacation
  • Long Holiday breaks, thanksgiving, Christmas.

I marked these days in my calendar for the possible playdate opportunities. In the midst of all this, God was also preparingg my heart and mind to serve in the community. It took me long time to recognize it and even longer to step out of my comfort zone. I am a work in progress to take his lead in faithfulness day today.

“and I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. “~Ezekiel 36:26-27

I had a moment of epiphany, if you will

We can share the LOVE OF CHRIST(purpose) in our community with our kids and with our friends(playdate). All the while taking advantages of the school holidays and call it “Playdate with Purpose”.

I shared this idea with some of my friends. Response was warm and overwhelming. I felt reassured.

So we kicked our very first ‘playdate with purpose‘ with my two other friends and kids gathered around our dinner table on MLK day, a day of service, Jan 21,2013.Could not have been the better day to start with.
